Medical Care in Nepal

Your donation in support of HGO empowers the people of Nepal.  Thank you!

Learn more about HGO:

JJoy Foundation is excited to partner with Himalayan Guge Organization (HGO), a nonprofit organization in Nepal. The primary purposes of HGO are to foster and promote Health (through the Science of Healing, Sowa-Rigpa or Sorig)Education, Culture and Community in the Himalayan region of Nepal. HGO believes that individuals can make a difference in society.

Our Current Campaign:

In 2025, JJoy and HGO partnered together to open the first permanent Sowa Rigpa Clinic in the village of Tsonup, Upper Mustang.  In 2026, we are expanding and opening our second clinic in Tsarang. Your donations help to make these ambitious projects possible, bringing healthcare to those who need it most.

The villages of Upper Mustang are not just among the most remote, inhabited, locations in Nepal, but also of the world. They lack basic infrastructure and quality health services due to their remote location, making it necessary for people to walk hours to receive basic medical care or to drive to distant cities for specialized treatments.  Additionally, in the cold winter months the few services that are available locally close down – leaving residents with no support.

At our clinics in Tsonup and Tsarang, medical treatment from qualified doctors is offered in order to meet the immediate needs of the villagers who attend. Counseling is also available and is focused on educating patients on lifestyle changes which will improve their own general well-being. In addition, doctors visit remote villages on a regular schedule to serve those who are too old or sick to travel to the clinic. By following patients over time, we are able to provide effective follow up and long-term care. Our clinics are open for the entire year, including the months of November to April, and have a qualified doctor on duty 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

There is a saying that “Health is wealth.”  We are excited to witness the long term impact that bringing healthcare to Upper Mustang will have on residents of the region.

Thank you for your interest in and support of this project.

Past Projects

10th Annual Upper Mustang Free Health Camp

People living in the Upper Mustang region of Nepal lack access to medical services and many have never had a proper checkup with a qualified physician. Instead, they have relied on traditional medical practices which are only partially effective. In November 2024, a team of volunteers participated in the 10th Annual Upper Mustang Free Health Camp. During this project, a team of medical doctors and professionals organized by the Himalayan Guge Organization offered free checkups, workshops, and health assessments for every individual in attendance – 337 people over the course of 4 days! Volunteers recorded patient vital signs, distributed medications, assisted with treatments and registered patients. In the time outside the clinic, the team soaked up the local culture and enjoyed the beautiful vistas. It was a special opportunity and a big success!
