JJoy-VBC Project ID024: Pos, Samban, Thun, Bon, Poan and Sokum

Construction: February 2025

In December 2024, JJoy Foundation initiated a project with our partner Volunteer Building Cambodia to provide a family with a home and a sanitary latrine.

Let’s meet the family!

Pos and Samban are in their early 40s and neither have any formal education.  Pos works as a day construction laborer earning $5/day when he can.  Pos spends her time taking care of their home. They live with their 4 children in a home of bamboo and palm leaves, which is unsafe and unhealthy. They do not have a latrine currently and must walk 300-400 m to use a relatives’ facility, which is uncomfortable for them and dangerous at night.

Even though (or maybe because) they did not attend school, they are adamant that their children receive an education.  Their son Thun is now a freshman in college.  Daughter Bon is 17 and stopped school in grade 8 in order to help the family survive, she does construction work and earns $50 a month.  The younger children, son Poan (age 13) and daughter Sokum (age 9) are studying in grade 7 and 3, respectively.

This project will have a big impact on this family.  Congratulations on your new home!

Welcome Home, Pich, Saouert and Tena!
