JJoy-VBC Project ID033: Nep, Samnang, Sreynu, Sreynath and Yeab

Project Sponsored by Doris Sweet

Construction: August 2025

In August 2025, JJoy Foundation initiated a project with our partner Volunteer Building Cambodia to provide a family with a sanitary latrine, clean water system and solar power. This project was funded by donations from JJoy’s amazing donor Doris Sweet.

Let’s meet the family!

Nep and his wife Samnang  live with their 2 daughters and his elderly mother on the outskirts of Siem Reap. Yeab struggles with old age and poor nutrition but does her best to help around the house. Samnang and Nep work as construction laborers.  Between them, they can make up to $8 per day on days when work is available.  They are dedicated to finding a way to keep their kids in school and currently the daughters are in Grade 6 and Grade 2.

This project will be life changing.  Congratulations!

6 Month Update: February 2026

Over the past 6 months, Samnang and Nep have continued to work hard to support their family.  They have increased their earnings now to about $11/day and can earn $260-$280 per month.  They are focused on making a better future for their children and consistently pay school fees to ensure their kids receive an education and do not have to work in labor like their parents.

Their new latrine benefits the family in many ways.  Their old facility was small and unsafe – now, with a clean and comfortable building, their health is improved and they are experiencing a new sense of dignity.  When the young daughters need to change their clothes after school, they have their own private space.

The solar panel provides reliable electricity without draining their income. The girls can now study at night without worry of fire from candles.

Having a clean source of water has been truly life changing.  Previously, the family had to walk 30 minutes from home to collect water and bathe in a pond. This posed severe health risks as the water was contaminated. Having a convenient source of safe, clean water right at their doorstep for cooking, bathing and drinking has had a significant positive impact on their overall well-being and quality of life.

The family expresses gratitude toward Donor Doris Sweet for her generous and impactful donation.  We are thrilled to see them thriving!

THANK YOU for being a part of this JJoy Community. Without you, this work would not be possible.
