JJoy-VBC Project ID032: Chhour, Srey Oun and Makara

Project Sponsored by a Student Study Abroad Group

Construction: June 2025

In June 2025, JJoy Foundation initiated a project with our partner Volunteer Building Cambodia to provide a family with a sanitary latrine. This project was funded by donations from an incredible group of students who supported this project as a part of their Service and Study Abroad program.

Let’s meet the family!

Chhour and his wife Srey Oun are living on the outskirts of Siem Reap with their young son Makara.  Srey Oun stays home to care for their child while Chhour searches for work doing construction.  On good days, he can earn $5 per day, which is barely enough to cover their basic needs.

This latrine will provide the gift of improved health and hygiene for this sweet family.  Congratulations!

6 Month Update: December 2025

After receiving their sanitary latrine 6 months ago, this family could not be happier.

The new toilet is cleaner and more protected than their old latrine.  It is sturdy and hygienic.  The gift has made daily  life easier and cleaner and improved the families health. The family is especially grateful for the comfort and confidence it provides their young son.

THANK YOU for being a part of this JJoy Community. Without you, this work would not be possible.
