Cambodia Family Transformation
JJoy-VBC Project ID0013: Pea, Ping and Pich
Sponsored and Built by Volunteers on VBC-241201-CP
Construction: December 2024
In December 2024, JJoy Foundation initiated a project with our partner Volunteer Building Cambodia to provide a family with a health home, a sanitary latrine, a clean water system and solar power. This project was generously funded by donations from JJoy’s volunteer team VBC-241201-CP.
Let’s meet the family!
Pea dropped out of school in Grade 7 and now works in construction earning $7.50 per day to take care of his family. Ping has no education and stays home to take care of their young son. They have been living in a small unsafe hut that gives minimal cover. Their toilet has no roof and their well is long broken. They purchase electricity from their neighbors but often went without.
Over the course of a week, this family worked side by side with international volunteer to change the course of their future.
Welcome home, Pok, Pea and Pich!
6 Month Update: June 2025
Since moving into their new home, Pea has begun farming on 1 hectare of his uncles land. He hopes that when harvest time comes, he will be able to earn $400 per season.
The family has planted a small garden which provides them with nutritious food – something they have been able to achieve because of the easy access to water. They are also thrilled to have their own toilet and electricity. This sweet couple loves that thy now have more time to enjoy life with their young son.
“Since we moved in, our living conditions have greatly improved. Instead of living in an unsafe home and worrying all the time, we now have a sturdy and safe home that protects us from harsh weather and gives us a greater sense of security. With our own power and source of clean water, we have a comfortable and dignified place to live and raise our son. Our favorite thing is that Pich now has plenty of safe space to play!”
