JJoy-VBC Project ID009: Pisith, Oun and Pavin

Project Sponsors: Dennis and Marion Geiser

Construction: July 2024

In July 2024, JJoy Foundation initiated a project with Volunteer Building Cambodia to provide a family with a home, sanitary latrine and solar panel.  This project was funded entirely by donations from JJoy Supporters Dennis and Marion Geiser.

Let’s meet the family!

Pisith works intermittently as a construction worker earning $7 per day. Oun is currently pregnant and stays home to ensure that she remains strong and healthy. Their son Pavin is currently studying in grade 1.

Over the course of one week, this family’s future changed before their eyes.  They are thrilled to be moving into this safe home before the birth of their second child!

6 Month Update: January 2025

Welcome to the world, Soksamnang!  Two months ago, Oun gave birth to a beautiful healthy daughter. We are thrilled to know that she will never experience the hardship of living in an insecure home. Oun is so thankful to have had access to a clean and private toilet which helped her remain healthy throughout her pregnancy.

Since moving in, the family has been working hard to make their house feel like a home. Pisith has found a new construction job which earns $250 per month. With his increased earning power, the family has been able to add trees and flowers around their home. They have also begun raising ducks for extra income.

But income is not the only improvement the family has experienced.  Living in their old home, Pavin was very unhappy and had trouble concentrating at school because he was often tired or sick. Now Little Run Pavin has much more energy to keep up with school and play as every kid should!

Congratulations!

One Year Update: July 2025

This family is thriving and is grateful to be the beneficiaries of this life changing project.

Pisith continues to work as a construction laborer and now earns $11 per day. This family is also raising 20 chickens, 9 ducks, and 3 cows, which saves them money for their own food, and provides extra income.

Pavin especially has greatly benefited from having solar power, which allows him to study at night.  The family also is able to continually charge their phones at no cost, which improves their connection to their community.

The family wishes every person who took part in this project a long and happy life.
