That’s right, we are at it again. JJoy’s second international volunteer team is hard at work in Siem Reap, Cambodia!
We’re thrilled to be working with our partner Volunteer Building Cambodia (VBC) in rural villages, building homes for families struggling with poverty. Our team has funded 2 houses, 2 latrines, 2 solar panels and 2 water filters. In addition, JJoy has increased our impact by donating an additional house, latrine, solar panel and clean water well.
Safe and secure shelter improves families living conditions in more ways than you might at first imagine. When there is no longer a need to constantly spend time and money repairing homes made of substandard materials, families can focus on saving and earning more income. When a home is safe and dry and everyone is healthy, children attend school regularly. Sanitary latrines reduce illness and prevent costly visits to a doctor. When solar power is available, electricity costs are reduced – further enhancing the families ability to make choices about how to spend their income. Being able to lock your door and keep your belongings safe for the first time is an amazing boost to dignity and self-confidence!
The team is immersed in the community and has already formed strong ties with both beneficiary families. More photos, stories and updates coming soon!
