JJoy Foundation is excited to partner with Educate Mozambique (EM), a non-profit organization promoting community development, educational programs, social assistance, and environmental awareness in Mutua, Mozambique. Your donation will make a direct impact on the well-being and dignity of people in this rural community.

Mozambique faces many challenges related to education. A shortage of well trained teachers, an outdated curriculum and limited resources result in a lack of a skilled labor force. Less than 50% of students in Mozambique finish primary school, and less than 10% of those students go on to attend secondary school. More than 40% of the adult population is illiterate.

The Mutua Education Center was founded in 2017 based on the premise that providing quality educational opportunities will lead to a brighter future for local children. At this small facility, children aged 8-17 are taught basic computer skills and the English language by skilled volunteer teachers. Educate Mozambique operates based on a conviction that, together, we can make each other better and build a more prosperous community. They believe that the situation you are born into should not dictate your future and are dedicated to inspiring people to achieve great things.

The primary goals of Educate Mozambique are:

To improve educational opportunities: EM works to create a safe and comfortable learning environment for the children of Mutua while encouraging them to be curious and to stay in school. Through their computer and English language classes, children gain essential skills and knowledge.

To execute community development projects: EM strives to design and implement innovative projects which engage and support the local community. Some areas of recent focus include health and wellness programs, food security, community policing awareness, clean water and adequate housing. These projects are carried out with a goal of empowering children, youth and families and enabling them to thrive.

To advocate for societal improvements: EM engages with local leaders and businesses as well as families to encourage active participation in community development for collective growth. They also are vocal supporters for educational empowerment throughout Mozambique.
