Volunteers were worried before the trip that they wouldn’t have the necessary training to help. But truly and honestly – if you have a positive attitude and are willing to do what is asked, you are qualified! Volunteers Ernie and Mike were asked on day 1 to time acupuncture treatments. After the Amchis insert the needles, they walk away. It’s up to Mike and Ernie to “wiggling the needles” (that’s the technical term!) every 5 minutes and remove them after the 20 minute treatment ends. Their participation allowed doctors to attend to more patients and was much appreciated.
