After just 4 days of work, the house is complete!  The transformation is amazing and the family could not be more excited.  The team is proud to have contributed in a small way to this life changing project.

It's hard to describe the joy that everyone felt after such a successful week! JJoy Volunteer Jenny receives a bracelet, recently blessed by local monks, from the new homeowner. The sense of community was amazing.
Before the family officially moves in, another blessing takes place. Monks from the local temple as well as a spiritual advisor pray for the health and safety of the family in their new home. The team provided housewarming gifts to welcome them home and the entire community attended this important ceremony.
This family lives on property shared with their parents, who already have a clean water well.  In order to provide even more health benefit, we donated a Bio-Sand Water Filter to the family.  Reducing contaminants in water used for drinking and cooking results in improved health.  

An exciting element of the new home is a solar panel!  The system powers 2 lights and a ceiling fan.  It also provides charging capability for mobile phones and tablets.  The family benefits not only from reduced electricity bills, but with a reliable source of light, children are able to spend more time studying and perform better in …

After the floor is secure, an interior wall is installed.  This home consists of two rooms. The front room is a porch with shutters that can be closed during stormy weather. The back room contains two windows and has a door which can be locked - providing this family with security for themselves and their belongings …

In addition to a house, this team also built a sanitary latrine. This greatly improves family’s lives by reducing illness and increasing personal dignity.  The latrine is detached but very close to the house.  Here, JJoy Volunteer Jenny constructs the walls with compressed earth blocks, rebar and mortar.
